GOLAGHAT: A one-day national-level workshop on new guidelines of NAAC Assessment and Data Validation was conducted at the Hemo Prova Borbora Girls' College, Golaghat on Monday.

The workshop was initiated with the opening remarks delivered by the IQAC co-ordinator, Dr. Palash Handique welcoming resource person Dr. N. S. Dharmadhikari as well as participants from various colleges of Assam. Following the felicitation of the resource person, Dr. Dharmadhikari, who is an eminent academician and educationist, Dr. Handique comprehensively described the purpose of the workshop.

Dr. Handique put forward the objectives of the workshop which were to seek valuable guidance concerning the preparation of the next cycle Self Study Report (SSR), and to seek valuable assistance with regard to the aspects of both qualitative and quantitative data validation. This was followed by the official welcome address delivered by Dr. Bipul Bhuyan, the Principal of the college.

At the very beginning of his presentation, Dr. Dharmadhikari emphasized the importance of hosting such faculty development workshops and seminars. He further underlined the importance of what he called 'C3 and D3' with regard to achieving higher grades in NAAC assessment. Thus, decoding the success mantra, he told the participants that a college in its functioning must not fall short in aspects such as 'Creativity, Consistency and Commitment'. Moreover, only collective 'Dedication, Devotion and Dynamism' would help any college to move forward.

Talking about the new methodology, Dr. Dharmadhikar stated the importance of each previous academic year in the build-up to the final NAAC assessment by the visiting peer team. He further asked to ensure daily updating of the college website and advised to follow the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) as regulated by the competent authority.

He also emphasized that a college must formulate its vision document. Such a document should accommodate visions of varied set durations. A foresighted vision document should focus on the achievable goals within a span of four to five years. Moreover, a college should have a clear and objective road map concerning its unending mission, and achievable goals (annually).

Continuing his deliberation, Dr Dharmadhikar urged that an institute of higher education (IEH) must work in tandem to meet the standards in order to ensure what he encapsulated as 'ICT- industry based outcome oriented academic performance through collaborations with neighbourhood community connect by using technological amplification of learning.'

With regard to specific collaborations, he added that an institute might offer coaching classes for various competitive examinations, skill/ ability enhancement courses by signing MoUs with various competent agencies/ faculty exchange programmes. Concerning the need for reaching out to its diverse neighbourhood community, the departments concerned should focus on bio/ethnic/linguistic diversity of a region. The workshop was attended by more than 100 participants from 11 different colleges from across the State.
