DHUBRI: The National Nutrition Month, 2019 was celebrated in Dhubri district. While reviewing this, officials in the social welfare development informed that inter-sectorial convergence of line departments was focused as a strategy for better service delivery and implementation of activities.

The five themes- first 1000 days, anaemia, diarrhea, hygiene and sanitation, and Paushtik Aahar – were promoted with the aim to bring about Social Behavioral Change and Communication (SBCC), they further informed.

They said that Jan Andolan Dashboard training was concentrated during the training workshop of CDPOs and ICDS Supervisors. Food mela, cooking demonstration, Poshan Mela, kitchen gardening, awareness in schools on hygiene, menstrual health and anaemia were some of the other activities rolled out. Talk, test and treatment of anaemia were also conducted.

Special stress was given on home visits, 100 percent growth monitoring and VHSND while 1,169 VHSND sessions were conducted out of 1,171 selected VHSND sites, they added.

Furthermore, officials said that essay competition between AWWs was held at all ICDS Projects. ‘Poshan Rath’ was taken out which created mass awareness across the district and tea garden areas. Rallies held at all levels- District, Blocks, Sectors, and AWCs. A total number of 61,281 activities were held during the month while essay competition between AWWs was held at all ICDS Projects.

Daily reporting of activities in the district was uploaded in Jan Andolan Portal which was constantly monitored by Deputy Commissioner Anant Lal Gyani. His participation in block-level Poshan rallies and motivational speeches inspired the AWWs, Asha’s, ANMs, Swacchgrahis, and staff of convergent departments, they said.

Talking to The Sentinel, Dhubri District Manager of Piramal Foundation, Udai Singh Chundawat said that this could have been possible owing to direct intervention, monitoring and leading from the front by Dhubri Deputy Commissioner Anant Lal Gyani who ignited the spirit of working and achieving the target.

“In fact, Anant Lal Gyani was the driving force behind the Poshan Maah activities. He also stirred school-level movement by introducing Aamar Vidyalaya Aamar Abhiman and ‘Prayas’ to upgrade the standard of education in the district. He also infused volunteerism to create awareness in both education and health-based programmes which hitherto had not been done by any Deputy Commissioner,” Chundawat opined.
