National Press Day observed at Ladies Welfare Society Hall, Haflong

HAFLONG: Haflong Press Club and Dima Hasao Journalists' Union, in collaboration with offices of the District Information and Public Relations and Subdivisional Information and Public Relations, centrally observed National Press Day at Ladies Welfare Society Hall, Monday.

Dr Dipali Barman, Joint Director, was invited as the chief guest along with Purabi Phonglo, DIPRO, and Purnima Hakmaosa, SDIPRO, as guests during the programme. The theme of the programme this year was 'Role of media during the pandemic COVID-19 and its impact on Media'. Various young journalists shared their views on their role as media persons and the shortcomings faced by them due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Dima Hasao media persons highly appreciated the sincerity and cooperation of the health department, especially Dr. Barman, for always responding positively to media and thus helping them in reporting correct information to the public.

Lauding the media in Dima Hasao for their active reporting, Dr. Barman said that it was because of the media that all information and awareness regarding the pandemic helped in combating the virus to a great extent in the district. DIPRO Purabi Phonglo also appreciated the media along with the health department and all those who are associated in combating the pandemic.

The meeting was presided over by the editor of Dima Hasao Post, SurjoThaosen, president of Haflong Press Club and DimaHasao Journalist Union. The day's programme ended with a vote of thanks by LalkamHengna, editor of Haflong Times and also vice-president of the Haflong Press Club.

BILASIPARA: Under the aegis of Bilasipara Subdivisional Information and Public Relation Office (SDIPRO), National Press Day was observed at Bilasipara on Monday in the premises of Dr BR Ambedkar Bhavan, Bilasipara.

In this connection, a seminar was held on the topic 'Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on journalism'. Professor Sheikh Hedayetullah of Chapar Ratnapith College was the chief guest while Dr. Hari Charan Das, librarian of Bilasipara College, and senior journalist Dayal Paul attended the programme as distinguished guests.

Sheikh Hedayetullah, Dr, Hari Charan Das and Dayal Paul addressed the meeting, highlighting many grievances of the journalists. The journalists present in the meeting shared their experience in discharging their duties during the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent lockdown.

TINSUKIA: Along with rest of the country, the National Press Day was observed at Sadiya under the joint aegis of the Subdivisional Administration of Sadiya, SDIPRO Sadiya and Sadiya Press Club at the auditorium of SDO (Civil) on Monday in presence of a distinguished gathering. The meeting was moderated by Bogen Gogoi, president of Sadiya Press Club, while Jatin Gogoi, i/c Principal of Sadiya Government HS School, who was the invited speaker, talked at length about the role of media during the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting also felicitated a noted literary critic, columnist and social worker, Labheswar. Among those present in the meeting were SDPRO i/c Madhurjya Buragohain, election officer Jaharjyoti Pegu, circle officer Barsha Duarah and other dignitaries.
