National Scientific Temper Day Observed by Ellora Vigyan Mancha, Doomdooma

Doomdooma: Ellora Vigyan Mancha (EVM), Doomdooma Branch observed the National Scientific Temper Day with a three-day long programme from August 18 to August 20. The concluding function was held on Monday at Doomdooma Bangiya Vidyalaya with its Headmistress Nivedita Chakraborty Purkayastha in the chair.

Students of higher classes belonging to Hoonlal HS School, Learners High School, Lotus Academy as well as their teachers attended the function while the badges for the observance of the day were distributed among the students of Doomdooma College, Doomdooma Girls’ High School and Doomdooma Jatiya Vidyalaya. EVM president Jhikananda Borgohain, working president Tarini Deka and vice-president Arjun Baruah attended as resource persons and spoke elaborately on superstition and obscurantism that were plaguing the progress of the country. A street corner meeting was also organized the previous day at Gandhi Mandap in the heart of the town to create awareness among the common people about the ill-effects of superstition which is a common sight in the Assamese news these days. In conformity with the observance of National Scientific Temper Day, Hiroshima-Nagasaki Day was observed at Phillobari Junior College on Monday.
