DIBRUGARH: National Service Scheme (NSS) Digboi College Unit conducted the 4thphase of a weeklong NSS Special Camp at Saraipung Forest Village under Digboi Forest Division, which is about 22 kms away from Digboi Town. DehingPatkai Elephant Reserve surrounds this village in all corners and at the edge of newly upgraded DehingPatkai National Park in one side. The Saraipung Forest Village was established in 1950 by the Forest Department and the present household is 88 with 600 individuals and 120 school children. The NSS Unit had organized several important programmes in order to sensitize the village people about various socio-economic, cultural, agriculture, sericulture and other related subjects. Various competitions like art, yoga, self-defence were held. Awareness programmes on the PradhanMantriUjjwalaYojana, PradhanMantri Jan DhanYojana, PradhanMantriJeevanJyotiBimaYojana, and renewable energy were also organized on the occasion. Essential school items like pencil, rubber, notebooks, erasers etc. along with two water filters were distributed among the school children besides repairing work of two toilet doors of the Angwandi Centre. Wall paintings were also carried out by many volunteers under the leadership of NiranjanNayak in various areas of the school campus on nature's education. A team of 27 student volunteers, 16 female volunteers and 11 male volunteers with teacher-in-charge RajibRudraTariang of the college took active participation. All programmes were conducted maintaining COVID protocols.
