TEZPUR: The National Technology Day (NTD) is observed every year on May 11 across India to mark the anniversary of Pokhran Nuclear Tests (Operation Shakti) held in 1998. Defense Research Laboratory Tezpur also celebrated NTD with great enthusiasm.

The programme started with the address of Dr S. Datta, Scientist 'E', who aptly deliberated the significance of the National Technology Day. This was followed by an oration by Dr I M Umlong, senior scientist of DRL Tezpur, who described the technologies on removal of fluoride from drinking water. For this oration, Dr Umlong was honoured with a commendation certificate and medal on behalf of Secretary Department of Defense R&D and Chairman DRDO.

With an objective to sensitize about DRDO and the importance of Science & Technology, students from various colleges were invited by DRL Research Scholar Forum (DRSF). The students were briefly introduced to DRDO and DRL activities by Dr Vanlalhmuaka, senior scientist of this laboratory.

To mark the occasion, a competition was held among the participating students to share their views on the National Technology Day theme for this year, 'Science and Technology for a Sustainable Future'. Several presentations were made by the students who shared their novel ideas and thoughts through their deliberations.

The programme culminated with a very inspiring and thought-provoking speech by Director of DRL, Dr. Dev Vrat Kamboj. He encouraged the students to be inquisitive to seek scientific answers to problems encountered in everyday life. On this occasion, prizes were distributed to winning students to encourage their scientific aspirations.
