National webinar held on drugs and vaccine-design against COVID-19 in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: Jengraimukh College organized a daylong national webinar on 'The excitement in Drug and Vaccine design against COVID-19 for the love of Science'.

The webinar was organized by the science stream students and faculty members of the college on July 19.

Almost 100 participants including students, teachers, professors, and research scholars took part in the webinar.

The program started with the welcome speech by Kshirud Chandra Handique, the

Head of the Department of Physics of the college. In his speech, he highlighted the relevance of the topic during the ongoing pandemic situation and stressed the need for the right information in view of tackling the adverse situation caused by the pandemic.

On the other hand, addressing the participants, Dr. Nabo Kumar Pegu, the principal of the college, said that the webinar was one of the important steps that the college had initiated to disseminate messages to grow scientific attitude to every issue and to spread higher education in the region.

In the webinar, Professor Burra VLS Prasad, Department of Biotechnology, K. L University, Andhra Pradesh, joined as a resource person for the session. In his keynote address, Dr Prasad, renowned scientists of the nation made an elaborate explanation of the steps that India and other countries had taken to discover drugs and vaccines to tackle COVID-19. He also shared his team's experience while discovering the indigenous vaccine. Dr. Prasad further answered various queries made by the participants in connection of the topic.

The session ended with a vote of thanks by Kshirud Chandra Handique who extended thanks to Dr Prasad and every participant for their participation in the session and he also expressed his gratitude to Biplab Kumar Das, Assistant Prof of Zoology, for his technical support in running the session.

The webinar provided valuable inputs to the participant, especially to the students which would help them in nurturing scientific attitudes towards problems and inspire them to serve society in the future.
