JAGIROAD: A day-long national webinar on the topic 'COVID-19: Teacher Education and Digital Literacy' was organized on August 12 by the National Institute for Teacher Education (NIFTE), Khetri in the district of Kamrup.

Dr.Poban Chandra Gogoi, Principal and chairperson of the organizing committee, delivered the welcome address. The webinar was held in two technical sessions. In the first session, Prof SK Yadav, teacher education expert, former Head, Department of Teacher Education, NCERT, New Delhi, highlighted the challenges and opportunities of teacher education during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also emphasized the different commissions and national educational policies, recommendations for teacher education and stressed the need for continuous professional development. He further explained about the government's initiative for capacity building programmes, virtual labs and the need for restructuring teacher education curriculum. He also stressed the need to adopt the bottom up approach. Rather than relying completely on the government, all the institutions and colleges should put forward their own plan of actions and provide it to the government in the form of suggestions.

While addressing the second session, Prof (Dr) Madhurya Bora, Department of Physics, Gauhati University, explained about the digital literacy in assessment and evaluation. He also elaborated on different virtual classroom options available. Total 500 participants took part in the webinar.
