MANGALDAI: The District Agriculture Department in Darrang district on Thursday joined the countrywide celebration of National Women Farmer's Day at Mangaldai. In the function attended by a large number of women farmers of the district at the Supervisory Training Centre of the District Agriculture Department, District Agriculture Officer Dr Uddhab Deka explained the objective and significance of the day and urged the women farmers of the district to devote more time in scientific farming and assured to extend all guidance, help and support to the interested women farmers. Earlier, Agriculture Development Officer Deba Sarma spoke in details on the initiative taken up by the district agriculture department to encourage the women farmers.

Young Agriculture scientist Banasmita Barman of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Darrang, appealed to the women folk of the district to spare their time to take up organic farming and horticulture, not only as their means of livelihood but also to become a stakeholder in production of agriculture in a scientific way. Subdivisional Officer (Agri) Dr. Deben Kalita, Agriculture Development Officers Murchana Malakar and Bhaswati Sarma, coordinator of Agriculture Technology Management Agency, Dilruba Akhtara, media person Bhargab Kumar Das and Mayukh Goswami also addressed the gathering.

Successful horticulturist Nilima Kalita spoke about her success story and appreciated the help, guidance and cooperation of the agriculture department. All the guests and participants also took part in the plantation programme to mark the celebration of the National Women Farmer's Day.
