HAFLONG: The N C Hills Indigenous Students' Forum (NCHISF) has decided that if NHAI does not start the maintenance work of the Miyungkro to Harangajao road within February 28, an indefinite road blockade will be staged from March 1, stated NCHISF president David Keivom on Thursday.

Keivom stated that the ISF Harangajao branch organized a joint meeting at Rekho near Harangajao to discuss the NH-54E Jatinga-Harangajao road maintenance work and compensation. The meeting was attended by gaon burahs, student leaders and village representatives of Harangajao area. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways had sanctioned Rs 54 crore for the maintenance of the Jatinga to Harangajao road but unfortunately, maintenance work was carried out only in the Jatinga to Miyungkro portion.

As the monsoon season is about to begin and if the maintenance work of the crucial Miyungkro to Harangajao stretch is not started immediately, the people will continue to face the same problem as in the previous years. Hence, the decision was taken to launch road blockade if the NHAI authority failed to start the maintenance work from Miyungkro to Harangajao before the monsoon season began.
