Need and Importance of Blood Donation Highlighted, Dibrugarh

Dibrugarh: A book on blood donation, originally written by Arup Ghosh and translated by the Principal of DHS Kanoi Commerce College, Dr Khanindra Mishra Bhagawati was formally released at a programme held at the DHSKC College auditorium on Friday. The programme started with the lighting of the traditional lamp which followed by a noted singer, Baishanyam Bhowmick’s devotional song.

Formally releasing the Assamese version of his book, Apurba Ghosh appreciated the steps taken by Dibrugarh Blood Donors Forum (DBDF) in translating the book to Assamese and hoped that the book would enhance awareness among the people which would increase participation in blood donation. He also shared his long association with the blood donation movement. The principal of DHS Kanoi College, Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia and former Headmaster, Parimal Mukherjee, highlighted on the need and importance of blood donation.

Director of the Blood Bank of Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dr Aditi Sarma expressed her satisfaction at bringing out a book on blood donation in the Assamese language. She hoped that the book would remove several misconceptions about blood donation. Amongst other dignitaries, the book-release programme was also addressed by the president of DBDF, Ashit Roy and secretary of West Bengal Blood Donors Forum. A training course on the science of blood and voluntary blood donation was also held to mark the occasion.
