NETA celebrates 200 years of Assam Tea in Jorhat
The North Eastern Tea Association (NETA) launched a tea academy in the state on the occasion of 200 years celebration of Assam Tea at a function in Jorhat on Saturday evening.

JORHAT: The North Eastern Tea Association (NETA) launched a tea academy in the state on the occasion of 200 years celebration of Assam Tea at a function in Jorhat on Saturday evening.
Anup Kumar Baruah, former director of TRA, and Tapan Dutta, retired professor of AAU, jointly inaugurated the tea academy. Prabhat Kamal Bezbaruah, former chairman of Indian Tea Association, released the book Two hundred years of Assam Tea (1823-- 2023) written by author Dr Pradip Baruah.
Bezbaruah, while speaking in the occasion, said, "Tea planned commercial cultivation and manufacture of tea began in China. Trade and cultural exchanges led to the spread of the habit of drinking tea to other countries of the world. In 1834, then Governor General Lord Bentinck set up the historic tea committee for survey of tea culture in Assam.'
Kamal Jalan delivered the welcome address in the function in which Bidyananda Borkakoti, advisor of NETA, writer Dr Pradip Baruah and other dignitaries were present.
