KOKRAJHAR: A new executive body of United Bodo People's Organization (UBPO) was formed on Friday in its 7th annual conference held at Mithinga Nwgwr, Uriumghat in Golaghat district.

The new body was formed as most of the members, including president and general secretary of the organization, have joined the new interim executive council of Boro Kacahari Welfare Autonomous Council formed for the Boro people living outside BTR.

Manaranjan Basumatary of Dhemaji district and Pitambar Brahma of Golaghat became the new president and general secretary of the UBPO for the next two years. Other portfolio holders are-Ratan Basumatary of Dhemaji (vice-president), Pradip Basumatary of Biswanath (vice-president), Nayan Basumatary of Sonitpur (vice-president), Amit Basumatary of Sonitpur (assistant general secretary), Swmshree Boro of Dhemaji (assistant general secretary), Pranab Boro of Rangia (secretary), Naba Kr. Brahma of Guwahati (secretary), Ranjan Basumatary of Choraideo (secretary), Abhiram Boro of Goalpara (secretary), Badal Mashahary of Karbi Anglong (speaker), Ratna Kanta Baglary of Morigaon (deputy speaker), Bistiram Narzary of Dhemaji (treasurer), Moheswar Basuamtary of Golaghat (literary secretary), Pailao Basumatary of Dhemaji (sports secretary), Ghanashyam Basumatary of Bongaigaon (assistant sports secretary), Nirmal Brahma of Dhemaji (cultural secretary), Ela Brahma of Dhemaji (assistant cultural secretary), Punja Mashahary (assistant cultural secretary) and Bibungsar Goyary of Biswanath (assistant cultural secretary).

Meanwhile, Bipin Goyary of Biswanath, Birendra Kr. Brahma of Dhemaji and Ramen Brahma of Karbi Anglong became the advisors of the organization.

Outgoing president Mihiniswar Basumatary, who founded the UBPO in 2014 to press the government for creation of Boro Kachari Autonomous Council, in his last speech in the delegate meeting for formation of new body said that his cabinet colleagues and members of the organization helped him all the way and joined the movement for creation of new council. He thanked the members for their relentless work during their six-year long struggle that had brought the new council for the Boro Kachari people living outside BTR. He remembered the sacrifice of over 400 Boro people of Gohpur in Sonitpur district, including thousands others, for the cause of Bodoland state.
