NAGAON: Debashish Sarma, the newly-appointed District Commissioner of Nagaon, interacted with the local media fraternity at the DC office conference hall on Friday. The interactive programme was organized to facilitate a get-together and exchange of views between the DC and the media fraternity.
During the interaction, Sarma was felicitated by the Nagaon Press Club, Nagaon Electronic Media Association (NEMA) and Nagaon Print Media Association, Nagaon with traditional Assamese gamusa and a bouquet of books.
The scribes present at the meeting introduced themselves and raised several issues concerning the district, including problems in the education, social welfare and healthcare sectors.
While addressing the occasion, Sarma emphasized his commitment to working with sincerity and dedication. He assured the media fraternity that he would strive to address the issues raised and work towards the betterment of the district. Sarma also highlighted the importance of contributing to society in a meaningful way, quoting a line from a poem by Chandradhar Baruah, “Dhulikona Moi” (I am a speck of dust).
Sarma concluded his address by singing Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s iconic song “Manuhe Manuhor Babe”, urging everyone to work towards the greater betterment of the society.
The interaction was attended by office-bearers and members of the Nagaon Press Club, NEMA, and the Nagaon Print Media Association, as well as officials from the District Information and Public Relations Office. The programme was initiated with a welcome speech by Mandira C Doley, District Information and Public Relation Officer, Nagaon.
