GUWAHATI: In response to constant public demand, Doordarshan (DD) Assam will broadcast its evening news bulletin for 30 minutes instead of the present 15 minutes.
Doordarshan Assam started its journey with launch of evening regional news bulletin in Assamese (Xondhiar Batori) on March 24, 1985. This 15-minute evening news bulletin, which airs daily at 6:30 pm, is one of the most watched programmes in the region. Because of its popularity among viewers over the years, the bulletin will now be broadcast for 30 minutes beginning December 1, 2022. On Monday to Friday, the bulletin will air from 6:15 pm to 6:45 p.m., whereas on the weekend, it will continue to air for 15 minutes from 6:30 pm.
Informing about the same, RNU Head of Doordarshan Assam, Ankur Lahoty stated in a press release that "the 6:30 pm bulletin of DD Assam is one of the most watched bulletins across all the news channels. Analysing the demand of the viewers, it has now been decided to make it a half-an-hour bulletin starting at 6:15 pm from Monday to Friday". Lahoty also informed that DD News Assam will be launching a 30-minute discussion programme called 'Dristi aru Jukti - to the Point' from mid-December. He said, "DD Assam being a public broadcaster is committed to the highest standards of broadcasting and news dissemination. In our endeavour to keep the people of Assam abreast with the latest developments and progress on various policy and socio-cultural issues, the discussion programme will provide a space where policy makers, key experts, political leaders etc., would be invited for discussions pertaining to various issues of public importance."
The show will air on DD Assam at 8 pm on Tuesdays and Fridays, with repeats on Saturday and Sunday.
