JAMUGURIHAT: A new tourism hub was inaugurated at Panpur under Sonitpur district on November 21 in a meeting held here. Panpur area, which shares boundary with the sixth addition of Kaziranga National Park (KNP), was recognized as a tourist hub formally on Saturday.

A meeting was held in the open field beside the forest camp of Panpur Ghat, Jamugurihat. Inaugurating Panpur as a tourist hub formally, Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika said, "Panpur has been added in the new map of tourism. With the opening of Panpur as a tourist hub, the backward area will be developed economically. Tourists can enjoy the natural beauty of Panpur as well as the sixth addition of KNP."

The inaugural meeting was graced by KNP director P. Shiv Kumar. Addressing the gathering, the KNP director delivered speech on the significance of environment preservation in the present day scenario. He also focused on the importance of preservation of world heritage site KNP. Deputy Commissioners of Sonitpur and Biswanath, Manabendra Pratap Singh and Pranab Kumar Sarma said that Sonitpur and Biswanath district administration would provide all sorts of co-operation for tourists.
