DHUBRI: A new vessel - MV Pratima- was introduced in Dhubri district recently to ferry passengers from the north bank to south bank and vice versa. The vessel will sail from Jaleswar ghat of Goalpara district at 9 am to Dhubri and it will again sail to Jaleswar from Jogomaya ghat of Dhubri at 2pm. The seating capacity of the vessel is 100 while 100 more can travel by standing, an IWT official said.

Another vessel, MV Bobkathing was in operation from Dhubri Jogomaya ghat to Fakirganj ghat of South Salmara-Mancachar district and vice versa after the Majuli boat mishap. The Dhubri district administration has clamped a total ban on sailing of nearly 800 engine-fitted and 3,000 country boats after the recent boat mishap in Majuli.

Thousands of passengers who usually sailed from Dhubri to other ghats of Dhubri to Goalpara ghats and South Salmara-Mancachar ghats are finding it difficult to reach their destination and traders too are facing a tough time to transport their goods to the south bank.
