Newly-elected Deori Autonomous Council members take oath in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: The oath-taking ceremony of the newly-elected members of the Deori Autonomous Council (DAC) was held in Lakhimpur on Tuesday.

The event was organized at the DAC Guest House, located at Narayanpur of the district. Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur, Sumit Sattawan administered the oath to the 22 newly-elected members of the DAC. It was followed by a public meeting held at DAC office premises wherein Bhairab Deori was selected as Chief Executive Member (CEM) of the DAC, while Bhaskar Deori was selected as Deputy Chief Executive Member (DCEM) and Amrit Prabha Deori was selected as chairperson. In the same event, Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan administered the oath to Bhairab Deori, Bhaskar Deori and Amrit Prabha Deori as CEM, DCEM and chairperson of the autonomous council respectively.

Pijush Hazarika, Minister for Water Resources Department, Information & Public Relations, Parliamentary Affairs, Social Hustice and Empowerment, graced the occasion as the chief guest. In addition to him, both events were attended by Lakhimpur MP Pradan Baruah, Bihpuria MLA Dr Amiya Kumar Bhuyan, Gahpur MLA Utpal Borah, Madhavdev University Vice-Chancellor Dr. Dibakar Chandra Deka, and other dignitaries.

While interacting with the media persons, Minister Pijush Hazarika said that the DAC would leave no stone unturned in order to ensure overall development of the Deori community of the State. Notably, the DAC has a total of 22 constituencies covering eight districts of Assam, viz– Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Biswanath, Majuli, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia, Jorhat and Sivasagar. The headquarter of the DAC is located at Narayanpur of Lakhimpur district.

The DAC Election, 2022, was conducted on November 8 and the result of the same was declared by the State Election Commission on November 10.
