HAFLONG: The rail communication between Lumding and Badarpur, which has remained disrupted since June 2, is likely to resume from June 16 as targeted by the NF Railway officials.

Though the NF Railway authority has kept June 16 as the target for the restoration, some are of the opinion that the restoration work will be completed even before the deadline since the work is going on on a war-footing.

Rail communication was disrupted due to sudden settlement of track measuring 170-metre length by 10 metre depth between Mupa and Kalachand causing inconvenience, not only to the Barak Valley but also to the people of neighbouring States like Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram. This section of the N F Railway has been considered as the lifeline for southern Assam, Tripura, Manipur and Mizoram.

High-level officials of N F Railway, including the General Manager and Chief Engineer, have been making rounds every now and then to monitor the ongoing progress of the restoration works. Meanwhile, the N F Railway has revised the timings for the Rajdhani from Agartala and fixed it at 6.30 pm on June 16 as there is every possibility to restore the rail communication between Lumding- Badarpur before June 16.
