DHUBRI: General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Chetan Kr Srivastava, made a thorough inspection of the ongoing development works and took stock of progress made so far under the Amrit Station Scheme at Fakiragram and Dhubri stations on Thursday.
During the inspection, Srivastava reviewed the progress of passenger amenities, station infrastructure, and other civil works. Emphasis was laid on enhancing passenger comfort, improving accessibility, and ensuring timely completion of the works in line with the objectives of the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
Apart from these, the GM also proposed to set up a Wagon Periodic Overhauling (POH) Workshop at Basbari, which is expected to boost local employment and strengthen the railway infrastructure in the region. The proposal, if approved by the Union Ministry of Railway, would mark a major step in decentralizing wagon maintenance facilities and enhancing freight operations in the Northeast.
While in Dhubri railway station, a delegation on behalf of the Dhubri District Railway Users Association led by Chairman of Dhubri Municipal Board Dr Debamoy Sanyal, Biswajit Kalita, Hasan Ali Sheikh, and others met the General Manager and apprised him about the long-pending demand to regularize the Rajya Rani Express, which presently runs only three days a week and to introduce a Dhubri to Guwahati Janshatabdi Express.
The delegation also informed him that earlier they had raised this demand several times in the past with former general managers namely Chahate Ram, Sanjive Roy, and Anshul Gupta as well as with the Central Minister. Each time, we were given assurances, but no tangible action has so far been taken till date, said the delegation members.
