BONGAIGAON: Along with the other parts of the country, the 'Martyrs Day' was also observed here today. In this connection, the New Bongaigaon branch of the NF Railway Mazdoor Union organised a Blood Donation Camp to tribute our Martyr of September 19, 1968.

Addressing the gathering on this occasion, Central vice president Phani Dhar Das and branch secretary NBQ(BG) branch Mrinal Seal said that about 53 years ago in 19th September/1968 the railway employees went on One day Token stike regarding Six(6) demand among them Need based Minimum Wages and Dearness allowance. "To Crack down our strike the police party fired on the striker and killed 9 person among them one were civilian. 6 person killed in Northern Railway 1 in New Delhi and 2 in NFRMU. Among them one is Paresh Sanyal from Bongaigaon and One Ramen Achrajee from Mariani. In New Bongaigaon Our late Com. Rakhal Das Gupta and his beloved wife lead the agitation.Though it was a one day token strike but in Bongaigaon all the railway establishment was closed till 15 days. Indira Gandhi Government imposed ASMA, NSA, 14/2 including transfer and removal from service to the striker.

In 1972 Indira told his then Education minister Nurul Hussain to write a book on all Indian Strike. Three historian Bipin Chandra , Amalesh Tripathi and Barun Dey wrote a book named "Freedom Struggle" which was published in 02/08/1972. In that book in Volume 1 page No. 140 details of Strike is mentioned," They mentioned.

In this blood donation camp organised by the NF Railway Mazdoor Union, New Bongaigaon branch today, altogether 39 persons donated blood. "The collected blood will be handed over to the blood bank in Bongaigaon Civil Hospital," pointed out Mrinal Seal.

The Mazdoor Unions hoisted the 'Red Flag' in the branches of New Bongaigaon and Bongaigaon of in the early morning.
