BONGAIGAON: "Rakhal Das Gupta was not just a person or a single identity. He was an idol, a legend, a part of the history of trade unions of India. In his long life of 88 years, he stood like a milestone in the railway trade union history," said Ashish Biswas, general secretary of North East Frontier Railway Mazdoor Union, on Sunday at Bongaigaon in the open meeting held at the Priya Gupta Memorial Hall on the occasion of the Smriti Divas programme organized by the Rakhal Das Gupta Memorial Forum (RDGMF) of NFRMU. He said that the young generation must follow Rakhal Das Gupta's ideology to get success in the battle for the rights of working class people.

The Smriti Divas programme started with union flag hoisting by Dipen Bora, president of NFRMU, Bongaigaon branch. This was followed by laying the foundation of the proposed Rakhal Das Gupta Memorial Museum-cum-Library and lighting of lamp by Arindam Lai, Additional Divisional Railway Manager of Rangiya division. The Rakhal DasGupta Memorial exhibition was inaugurated by Prof Ramani Barman, former Education Minister of Assam and president of NFRMU.

The open session was presided over by Dr P K Dhar, president of RDGMF, where several noted persons, including Arindam Lai, ADRM, Rangiya, Bimal Toppo, Chief Mechanical Engineer, NFR, and other dignitaries were present.

On the occasion, a multilingual souvenir titled Shraddhanjali was released by Prof Ramani Barman. The souvenir has been edited by renowned poet Qazi Shamim and his team.
