NGO distributes food packets to 400 poor families in Baksa

BAKSA: Assam Centre for Rural Development (ACRD), an NGO working on various developmental issues with the support from the State Bank of India, Northeast Circle, distributed food packets to 400 poor families in Baksa on Tuesday. The NGO has also taken numerous initiatives to generate awareness in view of the unprecedented COVID-19 crisis faced by the poor in Baksa district, stated a press release.

With the help of the local administration and support from the State Bank of India, Northeast Circle, through State Bank of India Regional Office, Guwahati, relief were distributed among 400 poor families in Baksa. Relief packets included rice, dal, potatoes salt, soap, turmeric, soya packets etc.

Chinmoy Pathak, Circle Officer of Mushalpur; Rajkumar Das, Lead District Manager of SBI; Pulin Saikia, Branch Manager of State Bank of India, Mushalpur and others were present during the occasion. "SBI and the NGO ACRD has taken a good initiative by helping the poor families of Baksa and providing relief material during the time of crisis. I acknowledge this step that they have taken to help the affected families during the lockdown", said Chinmoy Pathak, Circle Officer, Mushalpur, Baksa.

Under the SBI Gram Seva programme, supported by the State Bank of India Foundation, Mumbai, a stitching centre SBI-Prerna was set-up in Sonapur village, Mushalpur Block, to enhance the livelihood opportunities of rural women. As a measure to ensure people are safe from the spread of COVID-19, women trained under the stitching centre made over 600 masks from the Assamese gamosa in span of few days. These masks were later distributed among the poor in the nearby villages.
