Tezpur: Nine distinguished jail officials were honoured with the prestigious “Karagar Prerona Bota 2024” in recognition of their exceptional service and remarkable contributions to prison administration.

Among the awardees was Nayama Ahmed, Jailor of Central Jail Tezpur in Sonitpur district, who made history as the first female officer to receive this accolade. Her dedication, sincerity, and exemplary performance earned her this well-deserved recognition. The award ceremony, organized by the Office of the Inspector General of Prisons, Assam, celebrated the excellence of prison officials. The event was presided over by Minister Rupesh Gowala, who presented the awards, alongside Pubali Gohain, Inspector General of Prisons, Assam, and senior officials, including DIGs and AIGs of Assam Prisons.

This initiative highlights the state’s commitment to encouraging and recognizing excellence in prison administration and reform.
