TANGLA: The All BTC Minorities Students' Union (ABMSU) have alleged that the non-tribal population in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) forming more than 70 per cent, are being deprived of due land rights because for the past two years, non-tribals have not been able to procure permission to buy/sell land from the BTC Secretariat headquartered in Kokrajhar district.

ABMSU general secretary Taison Hussain, while talking to this correspondent on Wednesday, said, "The UPPL-BJP-GSP government headed by Pramod Boro which came to power with the pre-poll promise of resolving the issue of land rights in BTC within two months, has been largely neglecting the issue of land rights of non-tribal population who have been unable to buy/sell land despite being permanent inhabitants of the region."

He said that non-tribal people who applied to their respective circle officers for buying/selling land, had been denied permission for the past two years after their applications were forwarded to the BTC Secretariat. He further alleged that in the Tamulpur district, the religious minority people were being harassed in the name of D-voters by the government machinery and scores of genuine citizens were being served notices to appear before the Foreigners Tribunal.

Hussain urged Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and BTC CEM Pramod Boro to secure the right to live with dignity for the non-tribal population in the Bodo belt and to facilitate buying/selling land permission for them. He further demanded the BTC government's intervention in the bogus D-voter notices which are allegedly being issued by the authorities in Tamulpur.
