North Lakhimpur College Observes International Girl Child Day

LAKHIMPUR: The International Day of the Girl Child was observed in North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) in a befitting manner on Friday. Notably, the International Day of the Girl Child is being celebrated on October 11 across the globe since 2012. Its main objective is to empower women and help them to get their rights so that they can face the challenges all over the world and meet their needs. At the same time, stress is laid on creating awareness about eliminating gender abnormalities against girls around the world. It also reflects the successful emergence of the girls and young women as a distinct cohort in development policy, programming, campaigning and research. The theme of the event for this year is–Girl Force: Unscripted and Unstoppable.

The programme organized on the occasion in North Lakhimpur College (Autonomous) under the management of the assistant co-ordinator of the Women Study Center Ishmirekha Hundiqe was chaired by co-ordinator Lily Chelleng. It was inaugurated by the principal of the college Dr. Biman Chandra Chetia who explained the significance of the Day in his speech. Lakhimpur DSP (Headquarter) Runa Neog and district officer-in charge of Social Welfare Department Prashanta Borah graced the occasion as resource persons. In their speeches, they laid emphasis on the importance on the empowerment of the girl child, their education, health and personality development. In the same programme, Sudakshina Bezbaruah presented a song while Dimpy Chutia recited a poem titled ‘Nari’. Sangita Saikia and Priyanka Das performed a dance item. Moreover, prizes were distributed to the winners of essay competition organized on the occasion.
