North Lakhimpur Press Club observes former president Nanda Kishor Maheswari’s birth anniversary

LAKHIMPUR: North Lakhimpur Press Club (NLPC) observed the birth anniversary of its former president Nanda Kishor Maheswari as the Bhaskarya Aru Shipar Din on Thursday in its conference hall.

Nanda Kishor Maheswari was the president of the NLPC from 2005 to 2012 for three consecutive sessions as an active working journalist. In addition, he was a prominent architect, stage and cine actor, dramatist, literary figure, efficient translator and a noted social activist who contributed much to Lakhimpur district. NLPC has observed the day, May 9, as Bhaskarya Aru Shipar Din since he was alive.

The agenda of the event began with the lighting of ceremonial lamp by NLPC president Sailen Baruah. Then the members of the club and the gathering paid floral tribute to the portrait of the multifaceted genius. It was followed by a special programme titled ‘Satirtha Anujar Anubhav’ regarding Nanda Kishor Maheswari, with the president in the chair. Participating in the programme, NLPC working president Kumud Baruah, secretary Karuna Krishna Nath, assistant secretary Anil Dutta, magazine editor Ranjit Kakati, vice-president Priyam Jyoti Phukan, Lakhimpur district unit Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti secretary Raju Singha, journalist Rohiteswar Borah and Sanjib Kumar Lahon delivered speeches highlighting different aspects of Maheswari’s talents.
