North Lakhimpur Press Club vows to continue social responsibility through journalism

LAKHIMPUR: The get-together of the North Lakhimpur Press Club (NLPC) journalists on the occasion of New Year’s eve was held at its office on Tuesday in a cordial environment.

The programme which was held under the management of NLPC secretary Karuna Krishna Nath, began with the recitation of self-composed English poetry by magazine editor Ranjit Kakati extending new year greetings to all. Attending the event, former NLPC president-cum-prominent cultural activist Surajit Bhuyan laid stress on continuing the strong role of the Press Club in the upcoming year towards reflecting the social problems and leading the society.

“The members of the NLPC, representing various media houses, have been playing strong role in spearheading an intellectual movement in the district through their profession, thereby establishing a name in the State. The club has been efficiently reflecting the problems of the district. I hope this trend of the club will continue in the upcoming year,” he stated. He further suggested that the club should play a crucial role to bring change to the society by adopting a unique trend in journalism while highlighting humanitarian and environmental issues.

In the programme, North Lakhimpur Press Club president Sailen Baruah, working president Kumud Baruah, vice-president Dipen Borah, assistant secretaries Ajit Kumar Medhi, Rohiteswar Borah and treasurer Kumud Saikia delivered speeches showcasing the plan, programme and activities of the club in the upcoming year. On the eve of New Year, the members of the Club unanimously took resolution and vowed to keep continue social responsibility through journalism and to play a strong role against the threats to the society and humanity. NLPC extended New Year greetings to the people of the State.
