Kokrajhar: Noted Bodo writer and former president of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Brajendra Kumar Brahma was conferred with the 16th Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award, 2019, at a ceremonial programme at Bodofa Cultural Complex, Baganshali in Kokrajhar today.
His wife Kaushalya Brahma received the award which consists of a citation, a memento (a bronze statue of Bodofa UN Brahma), a traditional Bodo aronai, eri shawl and Rs one lakh.
The function was chaired by Surat Narzary, Retd Principal, Kokrajhar Govt College. Prof Laishram Ladu Singh, Vice-Chancellor of Bodoland University attended the function as chief guest. President of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Toren Boro, Absu president Promod Boro, former Rajya Sabha MP Urkhao Gwra Brahma, leading citizens were present at the function.
A noted writer with several books to his credit, Brajendra Kumar Brahma was born on 1st June 1943 at Chalani Batabari village in Kokrajhar Brahma. He is a recipient of several awards including the Someswari Brahma Literary award from Bodo Sahitya Sabha in 1994 for his poetry book “Okhrang Gongse Nangou”, Sahitya Akademi Award in 2009 for his poetry book “Baidi Dengkhw Baidi Gab”, Pramod Chandra Brahma Thunlaiari Bhanta in 2013 by Bodoland Territorial Council(BTC) and the Tagore Literary award.
“The UNB Trust is honoured to conferring this ward to Brajendra Kumar Brahma who is immensely and untiringly contributed to the downtrodden Bodo Community and literary works across languages in the state for its promotion and development, Chairman of UNB Trust Dr. Subung Basumatary said.
The Upendra Nath Brahma Soldier of Humanity Award is conferred in recognition of extraordinary work and contribution of an individual in the uplift of the downtrodden people, language and literature, art, culture and music, peace, economics and politics.
