BARPETA: Noted Leftist of Assam, writer, journalist, professor and the son of 'Bidrohi Kobi' Prasannalal Choudhury, Bijanlal Choudhury breathed his last on Tuesday night at his residence. He was 82. He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a daughter.
He was born on August 26, 1940 at Amolapatty in Dibrugarh. Apart from being a professor of Assamese in Madhab Choudhury College, Barpeta, he was also a journalist. He came to the field of journalism through a weekly newspaper Nilachal and later worked as a local correspondent of Natun Dainik daily newspaper. He also wrote a number of articles and published many books and humorous stories.
He was also the secretary of Natun Sahitya Parishad. The Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, Tej Prasad Bhushal mourned his demise and said, "His death is a great loss for the educational and cultural fields of the society." Bijanlal Choudhury's demise has been widely mourned.
