BARPETA: Noted Xattriya khol artiste and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee, Satra Bhushan Jagannath Bayan's last rites were conducted on Thursday in the Nakhanda cremation ground with Xattriya tradition with gayan-bayan.

A procession was taken out throughout the main roads of Barpeta town. Many people took part in his last funeral. This noted khol artist breathed his last on Wednesday night at about 8.30 at his residence. He passed away due to old-age ailments. He was 97 and leaves behind his wife, three sons, four daughters and a host of relatives.

Bayan was the ancestor of Jagannath Bayan. He was the 'Barbayan' of Barpeta Xatra. He was conferred the Sangeet Natak Akademi award for his life-long dedication in the field of Xattriya khol badya. Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta, Tej Prasad Bhushal condoled his demise, along with various other organizations.
