Notification issued for delimitation of Bodo-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council constituencies

LAKHIMPUR: The Department of Tribal Affairs (Plain) under the Government of Assam has issued notification for the delimitation of the Bodo-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) constituencies.

According to the notification, the territorial limits of the 36 constituencies for the General Council of the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) will be determined in accordance with the provisions of the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council Act, 2020.

The draft in this connection will be published on Thursday (May 4). The draft constituency-wise list of villages will be made available for the public in the office of the Deputy Commissioners of the districts concerned during the working days from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm. Public can submit their claims and objections regarding the draft, inclusion and exclusion of the villages in the proposed constituencies until May 12. On the other hand, the claims and objections will be disposed of on May 20. Some new villages will be included in the BKWAC constituencies during the delimitation process while some villages will be excluded.

The Government of Assam, vide notification No.E-231097/446 dated January 3, 2023, has already designated Binita Pegu, Secretary to the Government of Assam, Department of Tribal Affairs (Plain) as the Designated Officer to determine the territorial limits of the BKWAC constituencies.

On the other hand, the United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) has hailed the Government of Assam for its initiative taken for the determination of the territorial limits of the 36 BKWAC constituencies as per the Bodo Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council Act, 2020, stated a press release issued by UBPO president Manuranjan Basumatary and general secretary Pitambar Brahma. The organization had consecutively demanded the Government of Assam to notify the villages to form the BKWAC constituencies at the earliest and to conduct the election for the same.
