Notorious dacoit nabbed by Lakhipur police

SILCHAR: In successive operations launched by Lakhipur police led by Partha Pritam Das IPS, Sub Divisional Police Officer, a notorious dacoit identified as Salim Uddin (31) resident of Suktara, Sreekona Part II under Silchar police station, was arrested at Dilkhoosh tea estate on the bank of Barak on Monday midnight after receiving information about his movement in the area. One gun with ammunition was recovered from his possession.

He is a wanted criminal as the police record shows. In yet another criminal case, he was arrested from Sonai a few days back. He was sent to jail but released on bail after 3 months of imprisonment. Following day, Salim Uddin was produced before the SDJM Court Lakhipur which sent him to two day police remand. As police zeroed on him, he tried to jump into river Barak but was dragged by his feet on the bank by Rana Kumar Nath SI. Police is in search of his other four accomplices. The operation against dacoits was assisted by BSF. B K Chettri, officer-in-charge, Lakhipur police station was also in this operation.

In yet another successful operation by P P Das IPS, two young drug peddlers, Benjamin Hmar (33) of Hmarkhawlien and Rakesh Hmar (29) were taken into custody from Binnakandie Barak bridge road near Phulertal today around 12 noon. From their possession, 52 grams of heroin were recovered which were concealed in 4 soap covers. The market value of seized drugs is about Rs 2 lakh. Case against them has been registered under NDPS Act. SI Rana Kumar Nath will investigate the case. He was also in the operation.
