UDALGURI: The Udalguri district committee of All Hindi Bhasi Vikash Parishad staged a three-hour demonstration before the Udalguri Deputy Commissioner’s office demanding inclusion of names of Hindi-speaking people in the NRC.

The organization expressed dissatisfaction over the exclusion of names of Hindi-speaking people from the NRC. “People from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh who have settled in Assam produced documents from Bihar and UP but these were rejected,” said the protesters.

The organization submitted memoranda to Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Governor of Assam, Chief Minister of Assam and State NRC coordinator Prateek Hajela. Hundreds of Hindi-speaking people gathered before the Udalguri DC office and shouted slogans demanding inclusion of their names in the NRC. Ganesh Thakur, the president of the Udalguri district committee of All Hindi Bhasi Vikas Parishad, was present during the demonstration.
