NRL Plant 10,000 sapling in Golaghat on Environment Day

GOLAGHAT: As a part of the World Environment Day celebrations, Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) carried out the plantation of a total of 10000 sapling of plants in the Golaghat District of the state. The plantation was carried out on Monday at the Bogidhola Muga VGR located in Sumoni as a part of their corporate social responsibilities.

The massive plantation drive was inaugurated by the minister of Sericulture Department U. G. Brahma in the presence of the MLA from Sarupathar Biswajit Phukan, Managing Director of NRL Bhaskarjyoti Phukan, Chief General Manager (CSR), NRL Mintu Handique, and several other officials.

The plantation drive saw the plantation of 5,000 saplings of the Som Tree to increase fodder availability for the Muga larvae with the intent of boosting Muga rearing Capacity of the VGR.

The project was undertaken in association with the sericulture Department, Golaghat, Block Development Office, Morangi, Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Khumtai, Marangi Mahavidyalaya, and Letekujan Gaon Panchayat.

With the aim of a Green-Belt Creation, the organization planted of 2,000 saplings of Arjun, Neem, Keseru and Borpaat trees to curb air as well as soil pollution and to improve the air quality, protection of the natural environment, availing of medicinal properties of the trees while shielding the sensitive silkworms from pesticides used in the tea-gardens in vicinity sowing of castor seeds to boost rearing of worms producing Eri Silk.

Meanwhile, Voice of Environment (VoE), a scientific and environmental research organization based in Guwahati, Assam, celebrated World Environment Day on Monday (June 5) on the theme of “Solutions to plastic pollution” in the premises of Regional Science Centre, Guwahati. The program was a part of VoE’s ongoing initiative on environmental education and awareness mission among the students, youths and community.

The program was conducted in collaboration with the Regional Science Centre, Guwahati, a unit of the National Council of Science Museums, Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India.
