Silchar: The Sribhumi unit of NSUI, the student wing of the Congress filed an FIR against Rupam Nandi Purkayastha, the advisor of the All Cachar Karimganj Hailakandi Students Association (ACKHSA) for making derogatory and ‘undemocratic’ warning against APCC president Gaurav Gogoi. On the other hand, ACKSHA Alumni, a platform of the former leaders of the student body, distanced itself from Purkayastha and said, such types of political comments under the banner of a student organisation were very unfortunate.
Rupam Nandi Purkayastha, who joined the BJP last year, recently in a press meet under the banner of ACKHSA said, the student organisation would not allow Gogoi to enter in the Barak Valley after the Golaghat incident where the Congress workers had allegedly thrown water bottles on the Chief Minister’s convoy. The district BJP had already taken out a protest rally condemning the incident. But Purkayastha, who was reportedly eyeing party nomination for the ensuing Assembly election, stepped a bit further and used the banner of ACKHSA to target Gogoi.
The Sribhumi NSUI leaders, after filing the FIR, said, Rupam Nandi Purkayastha had no right to threaten anyone the entering Barak Valley.
On the other hand, ACKHSA Alumni in a press release, stated that the student organisation had relentlessly worked for the establishment of the Central University in the Barak Valley, but did never allow the outfit to be used as political platform.
