Numaligarh Refinery To Produce Ethanol Using Bamboo

Kolkata: Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has joined hands with a Finnish company to manufacture ethanol from bamboo.

The same was apprised by the managing director of NRL Bhaskar Jyoti Phukan while speaking at a CII event virtually.

He said that the company has invested heavily in a bio-ethanol plant.

According to him, NRL attempting to transition away from captive power generation and onto the grid, which will necessitate a power purchase deal with a green power provider.

He further asserted that India needs to move out of the crude price volatility.

''Since, the NorthEast (NE) has lots of water, hydrogen may be created locally and utilized as green fuel,'' he added.

He also said that it is necessary to monetize underground gas reserves as well as to store carbon dioxide in dead wells and reservoirs.

The Assam Ethanol Production and Promotion Policy 2021 were drafted to generate jobs along the supply chain of the Assam Bio-Refinery, which would convert bamboo biomass into ethanol and be built in Numaligarh.

The central government's push for oil marketing corporations to roll out ethanol-mixed gasoline has improved the bio-financial refinery's viability, but uncertainty reigns as petroleum dealers are wary of selling blended gasoline.
