Devananda Borthakur

O ne of the priests of the famous Biswanath Ghat temple in Biswanath Chariali, Devananda (Bubul) Borthakur passed away on the night of June 25 in his residence. He was 77. Prior to joining his present assignment as the priest, he had retired from Biswanath Ghat High School after serving as an assistant teacher. He leaves behind his wife and a host of relatives. Borthakur was associated with several social organizations of the locality. His death was widely mourned.

Putali Baruah

Putali Baruah, wife of Prafulla Ch Baruah, a leading citizen and former sportsperson, died on June 26 in their Rotary Path residence in Doomdooma. She was 87 and is survived by a son Latu Baruah, two daughters and a host of relatives. She was a pious lady and was closely associated with Doomdooma Naamghar Samity. She was ailing and bed-ridden for quite some time.
