Lakshmi Kanta Ray

Lakshmi Kanta Ray (84), pioneer of social welfare in Bongaigaon, breathed his last on May 29 in Guwahati.

Born in 1937 at Boitamari, North Dhalagaon to Govinda Prasad Ray and Birangana Ray, Ray was a strong and impressive personality, both in the field of sports and education. He served as a teacher and retired as the Principal of Birjhora Boys' HS School. He was the president of Barwari Puja Committee of Raash Mandir, Bongaigaon district Masters' Association, Bongaigaon Senior Citizens Organization and former president of Bongaigaon branch Xahitya Xabha. He received many awards, including Lifetime Achievement Award and Koch-Rajbongshi Ratna. He leaves behind his wife Kaushalya Ray, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives.

Dilip Gogoi

The founder vice-president of Assam State Power Workers' Union, Dilip Gogoi breathed his last in Assam Medical College and Hospital, Dibrugarh due to COVID-19 on June 5. He was 72. Gogoi hailed from Namrup and he was instrumental in raising the rights and problems of the power workers of the State. He was also a social worker, sports organizer and actor and was associated with a good number of local organizations. Gogoi leaves behind his wife, two sons and a host of other relatives. His demise was widely mourned.

Avanidhar Dev Sharma

Avanidhar Dev Sharma (92), Sanskrit scholar and a retired Sanskrit teacher of Sarupathar Higher Secondary School, breathed his last on June 6 at his residence in Sarupathar town ward no 4 due to old-age related ailments.

Avanidhar Dev Sharma was conferred the title of 'Shastri' for his profound knowledge of the Sanskrit language. The eminent educationist was born in 1929 at Nalbari. He served at Panitola High School in Kakopathar for a short time. After this, he joined the Sarupathar Higher Secondary School as an assistant teacher of Sanskrit subject in Sarupathar under undivided Sivsagar district. Avanidhar Dev Sharma was conscious about women's education and wrote a play named Vivrat. He also wrote many other plays and bhaonas. He also introduced Kamrupiya Bornegera for the first time in Sarupathar. Avanidhar Dev Sharma was deeply involved in the socio-cultural field as well as in the religious field. He was 92. He leaves behind his wife, four sons, a daughter a host of relatives. His demise was widely mourned in the Dhansiri subdivision area.
