Ashma Khatun

Ashma Khatun, a pious lady and wife of Safiuddin Ahmed, a noted citizen of Paneri area of Udalguri district, passed away due to age-old ailments at her native residence on December 24. She was 90. A soft-spoken lady, she was loved and admired by all for her amicable disposition. She leaves behind two sons and eight daughters along with a number of grandchildren and a host of relatives and well-wishers. A large number of people cutting across caste and religion thronged to pay their last respects to the lady and attended her janaza prayers. Her demise has cast a pall of gloom in the area.

Prof Ramswaroop Ladia

A cademician and social worker, Prof Ramswaroop Ladia (77) breathed his last at Apollo Hospital, Guwahati on December 23. Ramswaroop Ladia was associated with various social and religious institutions. He was the life member of Axam Xahitya Xabha, chairman of Gurukul Global Academy, trustee of Bazaar Shiv Temple and proprietor of Laxmi Commercial. Under his initiative, the Petroleum Technology Department of Dibrugarh University was opened in 1969 and finally he retired as the Head of the Department.

He was also general secretary of the United Chamber of Commerce during 2009-10. He leaves behind his wife, a son and three daughters. His death is a great loss to the greater society of Golaghat. Marwari Sammelan president Pradeep Nawka and secretary Rammanohar Binnani have condoled his demise. Floral tributes were paid to Prof Ladia by the United Chamber of Commerce, Marwari Sammelan, Gurukul Academy and Golaghat Journalist Association.
