

Bhupendra Nath Barooah, who was a private secretary to the then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed and also served in both Assam and Central governments in various capacities, passed away in Sydney on October 9. Born on October 3, 1927 in Sibsagar, Barooah moved to Shillong for higher studies after finishing school. He began work at the Shillong Secretariat, where he met his mentor Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed. He moved to Delhi in 1966 and worked as Ahmed's private secretary when he was the President of India. After this, he worked in various other government jobs till retirement.
After retirement, he was again employed at the Ministry of Steel as an OSD. He was a pioneer member of the Assam Association; Delhi and he always had a soft spot for any Assamese who needed assistance in Delhi. He moved to Sydney, Australia with his elder son 15 years ago. He passed away peacefully at the age of 95 leaving behind his wife Lily Barooah and two sons Ranjyoti & Devjyoti and their families.
