Obituary: Bireswar Chetia

Hengrabari Borbari’s well known social worker cum retired government official Bireswar Chetia passed away on February 15 at his New Delhi residence. He was 69 at the time of his demise. He was survived by his wife, a son and two daughters. The news of his death has shocked the residents of the entire Hengrabari area. His body was shifted to his residence in Guwahati from New Delhi in the evening and his last rites were performed at Nabagraha Crematorium.

Born in 1950 in Batbari Chetiagoan area under Sivasagar district, he later shifted to Borbari area in Guwahati and was an active member of various social and cultural committees and events. Due to his simplicity and kind heartedness, he was liked and respected by all sections of people.

As a founding member of Hengrabari Me-Dam-Me-Phi committee, he served both as a president and general secretary and his contribution is incomparable. The entire Me-Dam-Me-Phi committee members have expressed deepest condolence. His Adya Shraddha will be held at his Guwahati residence on February 25.
