Gunin Baruah, a leading citizen of Tapoban, Rupaisiding passed away on September 11. He was 72 and is survived by his wife and eminent poet Dr Aruna Gogoi Baruah, daughter Kakali Banya Baruah, DSP, Guwahati Sadar and two sons, Dr Arindam Ayan Baruah and Anurag Ayan Baruah. He was ailing for some time.

Born in Deamoolie TE near Doomdooma, Baruah, after his retirement from Minor Irrigation department, started the Baruah Paper Agency as a part of his zeal for serving for the cause of Assamese newspapers and periodicals and played a significant role in enhancing the readership. He was felicitated by Doomdooma Press Club a few months back for his contribution as a newspaper agent in spreading literacy and readership in greater Doomdooma area.

Besides this, he was closely associated with a number of socio-cultural organizations, including Doomdooma Sakha Lekhika Samaroh Samity, Tai-Ahom Kala-Sanskritik Parishad, Rupaisiding Sakha Xahitya Xabha and Saurav Kala Parishad. His death cast a pall of gloom and was widely mourned by a number of organizations, including Tinsukia Zila Xahitya Xabha and Doomdooma Sakha Lekhika Samaroh Samity.
