Janardan Upadhyaya, a dedicated retired police officer, breathed his last on July 7 in Guwahati due to cancer-related ailments. He was 70. Born on January 1 in 1950 at Shitalmari in Sonitpur district to freedom fighter Ganga Sapkota and Januka Devi, Janardan Upadhyaya was awarded DGP Commendation silver medal in 2001 for his outstanding services. He retired as Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) on December 31 in 2009.

He also wrote an autobiography titled 'Police ko Diary' narrating his experiences as a police officer in various places of Assam. He leaves behind his wife, two daughters, a son and a host of relatives. Due to ongoing lockdown in Guwahati, he was cremated at the Navagraha cremation ground. His death was widely mourned.
