OBITUARY: Nirad Das

Nirad Das (70), a retired Forest Range Officer and the secretary of Doomdooma Ramkrishna Sevashram, breathed his last at his residence at GNB Road of Doomdooma town on March 20.

He was ailing for some time and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter. He first joined the Forest department of Assam at Jaipur and after serving at various places like Saikhowa, Doomdooma and Margherita in different capacities, he rose to the post of Forest Range Officer and was posted at Kokrajhar from where he retired in that capacity in 2010. He was closely associated with Ramkrishna Sevashram, Doomdooma for 30 long years and at the time of death, besides being its secretary, was also co-ordinator of the North-east Ramkrishna Vivekananda Bhab Prasar Parishad, Digboi zone. His death has cast a pall of gloom in the town and was widely mourned by various organizations.
