A retired employee of the Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner's office, Tankeswar Medhi breathed his last in his home on May 1. He was a permanent resident of Panigaon under Telahi Mouza of the district. He had been suffering from old-age ailments for a long time. He was 89.

Tankeswar Medhi was known as a Namacharya, a Bihuwa and a talented Bhaona and stage actor. Involved with Panigaon Pragati Sangha, one of the oldest social-cultural institutions of the State, Medhi rendered social and cultural services throughout the vicinity. He is survived by three sons and three daughters along with a host of relatives.

A number of persons and local institutions of the area expressed condolence at Medhi's demise in addition to praying for the eternal peace of the departed soul and extending sympathy to the bereaved family.
