OIL engineer dies while working at Baghjan blowout site

Guwahati: Arnab Kishore Bordoloi, an electrical engineer of Oil India Limited (OIL) who was working at the Baghjan blowout site, today had an accident and was shifted to the Assam Medical College (AMC) in Dibrugarh where he breathed his last.

The 25-year-old electrical engineer, Arnab Kishore Bordoloi, was reportedly working on high voltage cables at the site when the incident happened around 2 pm.

As per a statement released by the PSU on Twitter, the OIL engineer was working with some equipment when he suddenly fell down and lost consciousness. He was provided emergency health care by doctors at the site and was rushed to AMC where he was declared dead. The reasons of the death will be known after post-mortem.

The tragic incident and has created a pall of gloom in the area. Meanwhile, a team from OIL is carrying out an inspection at the Baghjan blowout site to find out what could have caused the accident.

The well in Tinsukia district had a blow out on May 27, during a work over operation and caught fire on June 9 killing two firefighters.

On July 22, three experts from Singaporean firm Alert Disaster Control, which was asked to assist OIL and ONGC experts for putting out the fire, received burn injuries while they were removing a spool from the Baghjan wellhead.
