Numaligarh: An oil tanker blast at the Lobonghat area of Numaligarh rocked the whole area on Thursday. The tanker was operating under Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) and was engaged in oil transportation of Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL). The oil tanker bearing registration no. - AS-09-C-8684 was parked in a mechanical shop near NH-39 at Lobonghat, where the tanker exploded during maintenance works injuring many. The driver and helper of the vehicle - Pankaj Das and Bijoy Bora, Anjan Saikia, a worker from the mechanical shop and a person identified as Sanjiv were seriously injured in the explosion. All were immediately taken to NRL Vivekananda hospital but later shifted to Jorhat Medical college for better treatment.

As per information received, conditions of all the injured are still critical. Despite the fact that the tank of the oil tanker was empty, the intensity of the explosion was so huge that the engine-cabin part of the vehicle fell into pieces.
