SILCHAR: A major incident occurred on Wednesday night at the Assam-Mizoram border when an oil tanker suddenly erupted into flames, causing significant disruption in the area. The fully loaded tanker, which was traveling towards Mizoram, caught fire near the Vairengte Police Checkpost along the national highway.

The fire broke out right in front of the police checkpost, quickly escalating into a massive inferno that brought traffic to a complete standstill for several hours. The fire spread rapidly, creating a hazardous situation for both pedestrians and vehicles in the vicinity. Fire and Emergency Services from Dholai in Cachar, Assam, rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze.

The incident caused major traffic disruptions on this critical stretch of the highway, which is frequently used by commercial vehicles traveling between Assam and Mizoram.

While the exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, preliminary reports suggest that the blaze may have been triggered by a mechanical fault in the tanker. The incident highlights the risks associated with the transportation of hazardous materials, particularly on busy highways. The road remained closed for several hours, affecting the movement of goods and services in the region.

Earlier this month, a large fire broke out near Jorhat Railway Station, completely consuming a commercial truck and raising suspicions of possible sabotage. The truck, which was parked near the station, caught fire late Wednesday night.

An alert Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable noticed the flames and quickly informed the truck owner. When the owner arrived at the scene, the fire had already spread extensively, despite the vehicle having been parked just 45 minutes before the incident.
