DIBRUGARH: Operational activities at Baghjan gas well blowout site were severely affected due to protest by local people in front of Baghjan Early Production Setup installation. However, at the intervention of Tinsukia civil administration, a meeting was convened at the DC office and after a discussion, the people who called for the bandh agreed to withdraw it.

Singapore-based firm M/S Alert Disaster Control, responding to OIL's request, has sent a team comprising Michael Earnest, Senior Well Control Operations (team leader); Craig Nell Duncun, Senior Well Control Engineer; and Edward Harris MacLeod, Senior Well Control specialist. They are likely to reach Duliajan on June 7 in a chartered aircraft. Informing this, Michael E. Alicon, Managing Director, Alert Disaster Control (Asia) said, "Delay of the team's arrival is due to COVID related clearance in Singapore."

Meanwhile, the OIL has decided to provide an amount of Rs 30,000 to each of the affected families as immediate relief as soon as the detailed beneficiary list with name and bank account details will be received from the district administration.

This was decided at a tripartite meeting held at the office of the Tinsukia Deputy Commissioner on Friday with the representatives of Baghjan Gaon Milan Jyoti Yuba Sangha and OIL team headed by Director, OIL, HR&BD, Biswajit Roy.

Considering the gravity of the situation arising out of gas well blowout at Baghjan, a large section of people are of the opinion that OIL's efforts to overcome the crisis should not be jeopardized by staging any unwanted act.
